Yokohama An old column sits in a Tea house
A vertical sihouette seen in center of this picture is a wood column inside a Tea house.I`m afraid I don`t remeber the exact story I was told, But I`m trying to tell you anyway.
Placing an old column in a Tea house came into fashion during Meiji period. The older column was the better. It sounds pretty strange, doesn`t it? A New one should be better, But it is said that a colum has a house`s history in it, So a column symbolizes the inheritance of the house's history.I think the colum in this picturemay be a thousand years old.
